Hocus Pocus 2 is finally getting the sequel it’s been waiting for. And we now know when it will be released!
Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus 2. 29 years after Max resurrected them in 1993 original, the fabulously evil sisters return in this Disney Plus exclusive sequel.
All Hallow’s Eve is coming, and the town of Salem, Massachusetts, is once again in danger, and it’s up to a fresh generation of children to stop them!
Winifred, Bette Midler’s character in the upcoming film, reportedly yells: “It’s time to put your kids in a safe place! I can confirm, Salem, that we’ve returned!”

When Will Hocus Pocus 2 Be Released?
The long-awaited sequel to Hocus Pocus has finally been given a release date by Disney, and it will arrive in time for Halloween.
The sequel will premiere on Disney+ on September 30th, 2022, at Disney’s upfronts presentation. Sanderson Sisters create havoc in Salem once more in this sequel, which arrives nearly 30 years after the original film.
On October 18, 2021, filming began in Rhode Island for the sequel, which concluded in late January 2022.
We’ll have to wait for Hocus Pocus 2 for the time being, but in the meanwhile, you can watch the original on Disney+ to make up for the lack of witches in your life.
Who Will Be in the Cast of Hocus Pocus 2?
Three of the movie’s most beloved evil witches will return to reprise their roles in the sequel.
There will also be a Billy Butcherson reunion with Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, What We Do in the Shadows). In the first battle, Billy was Winifred’s zombie ex-boyfriend who aided Dani, Allison, and Binx in their victory.
Along with Becca, Cassie, and Izzy (Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belissa Escobedo from American Horror Stories), the Sanderson sisters’ fury is incited by a group of high school kids.
Tony Hale, Juju Brener (Vanquish), Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen make up the rest of the cast, which includes Emmy-winning actress Hannah Waddingham. But Thora Birch isn’t playing Dani Dennison, the character she played in the original.
Which New Members Will Join the Cast?
Disney has unveiled more new cast members for Halloween 2021, including Richardson’s Veep co-star Tony Hale, Game of Thrones actor Hannah Waddingham, and Ted Lasso.
Like Richardson, Waddingham is clearly a Hocus Pocus devotee, and she’s keeping her involvement under wraps.
“I turned up for my fitting in Rhode Island and the second assistant director said, ‘All the ladies would like to meet you. Honestly, my jaw dropped off. I went and sat with them in their costumes. Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler, and the mighty SJP,” she told Variety.

What Will Be the Storyline of Hocus Pocus 2?
While we were waiting for official confirmation, we get our first glimpse at what to expect in this sequel’s storyline.
“Three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world,” it reads.

A crimson moon causes Poppy and Isabella to mistakenly revive the Sanderson sisters in an effort to impress Isabella. Because it’s unclear what will happen in the movie sequel, this may or may not be considered canonical.
To prove that the witches can return, a magic book winked its eye in the final scene of the first movie.
Even though we don’t know much more about the sequel, it’s good enough for us to know that the returning actors have been praising it. “We looked at [the script] and I think all of us felt that it was very amazing,” Midler remarked in 2020.
However, there will be at least one musical number in Hocus Pocus 2 that mirrors the legendary “I Put a Spell on You” moment from the first film. A clip of the sisters performing Elton John’s ‘The Bitch is Back,’ which was revealed at Disney’s upfronts presentation, has us excited for the film’s release.
