Elvis Movie Release Date: Will It Be Released on HBO Max?

The King of Rock & Roll himself, Elvis Presley, is the current focus of a Hollywood biopic.

Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS will examine the meteoric rise to fame of Mississippi-born Elvis Aaron Presley from the late 1950s through the mid-1970s, as well as his rebellious performance style and African-American-inspired sound. Like Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, ELVIS will focus on the life of Freddie Mercury.

After the trailer for ELVIS emerged ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, Austin Butler, who plays Presley, has already gained a lot of attention.

Our comprehensive ELVIS movie guide includes information on the movie’s premiere date, cast, and plot.

When Will the Elvis Movie Be Released?

It’s no surprise that Elvis’ release date has been pushed back several times because of the ongoing Pandemic. It was originally scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021, but Warner Bros. later pushed it back to November 5, 2021, which was an awards-friendly date.

The release date of the picture was moved back to June 3, 2022, following the announcement that Warner Bros. would simultaneously release all of its 2021 movies in theatres and on HBO Max.

When it finally opens on June 24, 2022, it will go up against Ethan Hawke’s horror thriller The Black Phone, directed by Scott Derrickson.

After its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival on May 25, ELVIS has received mostly excellent reviews, with particular praise for Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis Presley in the film.

What Will Be the Storyline of Elvis?

Elvis covers the life and career of Elvis Presley, from his early days as a confirmed superstar through his later years as a music legend. The hysteria surrounding his performances, acting career, and Vegas residency will also be explored in the film.

Elvis Presley’s complicated relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, will also be included in the film. Many think that Parker exploited a young Presley throughout his career, especially by denying him the opportunity to perform outside of the United States.

Presley’s manager, Parker, was judged to have been “unethical” in an investigation performed by assigned attorney Blanchard E. Tual in 1980.

Additionally, Elvis delves into the personal lives of Presley and his daughter Lisa Marie as well as Presley’s long battles with mental health issues like drug addiction and suicidal thoughts.

Director Baz Luhrmann hinted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Elvis was a “three-act pop-cultural opera.”

“This was about exploring America in the ’50 and the ’60s and the ’70s, and Elvis was at the center of culture for the good, the bad, and the ugly in various ways,” he said.

Will It Be Released on HBO Max?

Warner Bros.’ big-budget tent poles will only be released in theatres after garnering opposition from both their top talent and large theatre chains, while HBO Max customers will have to wait 45 days after the film’s debut before they can see it on the streaming service.

In light of recent developments, including a change in leadership, there is a remote possibility that the new studio president would grant a longer exclusivity period to theatres for Warner Bros.

To see how The Batman’s box office does, it will be interesting to see if the 45-day window plan is ditched or if the shorter window shows any symptoms of diminishing sales.

Where Did the Filming of Elvis Take Place?

Presley’s hometown Tennessee was not where the filming for Elvis took place. Instead, the majority of the filming was done in Luhrmann’s native Australia. When Hanks and Wilson tested positive for COVID-19 barely two months into production, the project was put on hold.

Some of the film’s talent was lost before filming resumed in September 2020, including Oscar-nominated Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was set to play Gladys Presley. The filming continued for an additional year after it was first halted, in March 2021.

Elvis: Trailer

The trailer for ELVIS has finally been released after a long wait. Fans are introduced to Presley as a young boy, dancing with veterans and showcasing his performance abilities in the trailer’s opening scene.

The trailer then cuts to Austin Butler as an adult Presley, performing on stage and throwing his female pals into a frenzy with his famed hips.

Audiences watch as Presley’s career takes off as he becomes a household celebrity during the trailer. The criticism he received for his bold moves is also shown to the audience.

Tom Hanks informs Presley towards the end of the trailer: “We are the same, you and I. We are two odd lonely children, reaching for eternity.”
