Since the season’s official trailer debuted, fans have speculated that Schnapp’s character is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

However, things became even more mysterious after star David Harbour joked in an interview with Netflix Latinoamérica that Will was “interested in someone else in the group” other than Eleven, with whom he attends school in season 4.

In an interview with The Wrap in 2019, Schnapp revealed he didn’t see his character as queer until Season 3 of The 100 premiered in 2019.

It was clear to the actor that his character’s sexuality was up to the audience’s interpretation; he did not see him as a person who was ready to grow up, especially in light of the fact that many of his peers were in partnership.

It was evident from the start of Stranger Things season 3 that things had shifted among the kids since the start of summer and the beginning of their romantic relationships. Will Byers was the most affected and wanted to go back to playing D&D as they did in seasons 1 and 2.

While waiting for Will outside Mike’s house, the situation came to a head “What’s the point of trashing everything? How about exchanging saliva with some dumb girl?” Eleven was swiftly rebuked by Mike, who rushed to her defence “No, El isn’t an idiot. My apologies if you don’t find girls attractive.”

Fans and Will were both stunned by the scene’s abruptness. Obviously, since Mike is Will’s best buddy, he may have known more than most of us, but the situation is set up to infer that Will Byers is homosexual.

It’s impossible to know for sure if it was true or not because it was spoken in passing by someone other than Will and his sexuality was never publicly acknowledged in season 3 or by the cast and crew afterwards.

Stranger Things season 2 ended with a clue about Will’s sexuality, but the specifics were finally revealed in the screenplay for the season finale. There is a line that says, “For Will, it says, “I’m dancing with…,” when the students are at the Snowball dance “Will and the Cute Girl are dancing awkwardly together in the middle of the street.

But she’s not the only one in his sights. There is a man on the loose… Mike.” The two of them were dancing the night away. The teleplay’s description may have been meaningless at the time, but after the third season, it reemerged.

Will Byers‘ homosexuality has been hinted at multiple times in Stranger Things season 4, except for one scene in which he was directly involved. This season’s initial introduction to the Byers family takes place at their new California home, which Eleven describes as follows: “When I ask Will what he’s working on, he refuses to show me.

Possibly for a female. Because of his odd behaviour, I believe he has a crush on someone.” Will, like Eleven, was ecstatic to see Mike for the first time since he left Hawkins, and he carried the painting with him to the airport to give to Mike.

In the end, Will took the artwork to Hawkins with him when they left. So, if Eleven is correct, the artwork might be for Mike after all.

Also in episode 1, Eleven gave her Hopper presentation to the class, and a less subtle clue was also given. To grab Will’s attention, a female in the row behind him rubs her foot on his leg, and he swiftly takes his leg away.

The entire incident may be explained by Will’s awkwardness, but his reaction also appeared to be one of disgust (to an extent). Mike and Eleven may be on to something if they are both correct in their belief that Will doesn’t like girls and Eleven believes the painting is for someone he likes.

This narrative point has been in the works for a while now. However, Stranger Things has yet to reveal how this storyline will progress.
