Spiderhead depicts a near-future society in which criminals are offered the opportunity to volunteer as medical subjects in order to avoid harsh jail sentences.

Subject to scientist Steve Abnesti’s experiments, convicted criminal Jeff (Miles Teller) is given mind-altering chemicals that induce feelings of profound love (akin to when Ron Weasley momentarily falls in love with Romilda Vane in Harry Potter, but more intense, shall we say).

Abnesti may believe his work would save lives, but ulterior motives lurk beneath the surface. The plot twists when Jeff meets another prisoner, Rachel (Jurnee Smollett), and the two begin to revolt against their master.

Jeff, a key participant in Spiderhead’s experimental operations, is portrayed by Miles Teller. During his time in the Spiderhead prison, Jeff forms close relationships with both Abnesti and Rachel, another inmate.

Rachel is another inmate tortured by Steve Abnesti’s life-altering experiments. With a long variety of credits and appearances, 2020 was Smollett’s breakthrough year.
