Monica Camille Lewinsky was born on July 23, 1973, in San Francisco, California, as Monica Camille Lewinsky. That spring, Monica was sent to the Pentagon as a punishment for spending too much time with the president. She confessed her relationship with President Clinton to coworker Linda Tripp, who began secretly recording their phone conversations in September 1997.
Monica remained at the Pentagon until December 1997, and in an affidavit given in the Paula Jones case the following month, she denied any relationship with Clinton. She sought to get Linda to lie under oath. However, Tripp gave her tapes to Kenneth Starr, an independent counsel investigating the Clinton family’s Whitewater real estate interests during Clinton’s administration.
Tripp dissuaded Lewinsky from having a blue dress containing proof of a sexual encounter with Clinton dry cleaned and advised her to keep any presents he had given her.
As soon as the blue dress was in the hands of special counsel Robert F. Kennedy, President Clinton conceded that he had “a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not acceptable” despite previously denying it. As a result of Lewinsky and Clinton’s testimony before a grand jury, the Office of Independent Counsel gave Monica Lewinsky transactional immunity.

With 70 million people, Monica’s interview with Barbara Walters on “20/20” in March 1999 was the second most-watched interview on television (after Oprah Winfrey’s 1993 interview with Michael Jackson), and the foreign rights earned Lewinsky $1 million.
Monica appeared in two skits on “Saturday Night Live” on May 8, 1999. In January 2000, she began appearing in commercials with Jenny Craig, Inc., a diet firm that paid her $1 million to lose 40 pounds in six months.
