Serena Williams Net Worth: How Hard Does Serena Williams Train?
Serena Williams has established herself as one of the most well-known athletes in the world during her career. Williams, who has 23 Grand Slam wins to her credit, has been ranked No. 1 eight times between 2007 and 2011. However, the four-time Olympian gold medallist is one of the highest-paid female athletes globally, earning more than $1 million each year.
Along with Global No. 3 Naomi Osaka, Williams is one of just a few female athletes to earn more than $30 million in a year’s worth of earnings. Willams tied the knot with Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017, and she will be 39 on September 26, 2018.
Early Life
While born in Saginaw, Michigan, Serena Jameka Williams spent a portion of her youth in the Los Angeles area. She and her sister, Venus, were introduced to tennis at a young age by their parents. Homeschooling allowed both girls to get the most out of their practice time.
Her official coaches were Richard Williams, her father, and Oracene Price, her mother. Richard Williams, who would develop the Venus and Serena Williams Tennis/Tutorial Academy, was one of her early teachers. To attend Rick Macci’s tennis academy in West Palm Beach, Florida, Serena and her family relocated there at 9. They were taken out of Macci’s academy by their father in 1995, and he took over as their official coach once more.
Career
Having been ranked number 1 in the world eight times, Serena Williams has amassed more prize money than every female tennis player in the sport’s history. As of this write, Williams has collected more than $90 million in prize money throughout his career. She has amassed 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and fourteen Grand Slam doubles trophies with her sister Venus Williams. She has also won gold medals at the Olympics in Sydney, Beijing, and London, among other competitions.
Williams competed in her first professional event at the age of 14 in 1995, when she was just 14 years old. Williams made quite a statement at the 1997 Ameritech Cup, defeating the No. 7 and No. 4 rated players before being defeated in the semifinals by a No. 304 ranked player. Her career took off due to the victories, and she finished 1997 with a No. 99.
Her early supremacy was evident in 1999 when she defeated several top players and won her maiden Grand Slam title, the US Open. Many high-profile victories followed that year, including some Grand Slam doubles crowns at Wimbledon and the US Open. However, she was still unable to develop a title for her first single.
The early 2000s saw Serena Williams continue to show her supremacy, and she finally reached the top spot in 2002. She also won three Grand Slam titles that year: the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, all of which she beat her sister Venus in the finals.
She won the Australian Open in 2003, her fourth Grand Slam championship overall. Thus, she achieved the “Serena Slam,” which she dubbed as winning all four major Grand Slam titles at the same time. During the 2014-15 Grand Slam season, she would achieve the same feat again.
Although Williams had fought her way back to the top of the rankings and won a streak of Grand Slam titles in 2008, she had not yet achieved her potential. It was a period of personal and medical hardship for her that included knee surgery and her half-sister Yetunde’s death. As her rating slipped out of the top 10, many in the tennis community began to believe that she and her sister, Venus, were no longer as powerful as they had been.
There was a resurgence of health issues in 2011. Doctors discovered a blood clot in one of her lungs in the same year. After undergoing surgeries, many were concerned about her future in the sport to fix the problem.
Serena suffered two defeats at the US Open and Wimbledon as the year progressed. However, in 2012, she won her first-ever male sexual single gold medal in the Olympic Games in London. Throughout 2012, 2013, and 2014, she was victorious at the US Open, the Australian and French Opens, and Wimbledon. In 2015 and 2016, she was victorious at the US Open, the Australian and French Opens, and Wimbledon.
When Serena Williams had to take time off to have a mother and deal with injuries, she was still a dominant force in women’s tennis. In addition to her 23 Grand Slam singles victories.
