Together with Along for the Ride, a live-action version of Sarah Dessen’s novel of the same name, Netflix will expand its teen-oriented film offerings in the following months and years. Four Dessen novels have been optioned by Netflix for adaptation, with Along for the Ride being the first to receive the green light for development. According to the company, along for the Ride will appear on Netflix in April of 2022.
Apart from To All the Boys, I’ve Loved Before and its two sequels, Sofia Alvarez has also written for the Eric Andre Football association series Man Seeking Woman and the Netflix original film, Along for the Ride. Along with starring in the film, Alvarez is also directing it, marking her feature film directorial debut with Along for the Ride.

Following the release of Netflix’s annual movie preview for 2022, the company announced its upcoming film Along for the Ride, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix on Friday, April 22nd, 2022.

In the film, which is based on Sarah Dessen’s novel of the same name, Auden meets a fellow insomniac during the summer before she attends college and the events that ensue follow.
As soon as they meet, the duo embarks on a series of midnight adventures that provide Auden with a taste of the carefree youthful life she’d never known she craved while also going on a voyage of self-discovery.
“It’s Auden’s last summer before college, and she’s spending it in the gorgeous town of Colby Beach,” according to the official synopsis given by Netflix. While other teenagers are out having fun in the sun, Auden prefers to spend her time wandering the streets after the rest of the group has fallen asleep.
After meeting Eli, a charming and fascinating fellow insomniac, everything begins to change for her. Eli challenges Auden to a mission to fulfill all of her childhood fantasies while they are out on their nighttime excursions. The strength of their bond forces them to confront the reasons why they have been content to live their lives in the shadows, as they begin showing others how to live life fully.”
What Is the Current Status of Along for the Ride’s Production?
On April 22, 2021, filming for the television series Along for the Ride kicked off in the North Carolina beach town of Carolina Beach and will continue in Wilmington, Kure Beach, and Oak Island. The majority of the filming took place at night because much of the plot revolves around the experiences of the two insomniac characters during the night. The final day of production was June 4, 2021.
According to reports, filming was completed on November 15th, 2022.
What Happens at the End of Along for the Ride?
After the novel, Auden and Eli are in Ray’s, a coffee shop that Auden used to frequent when she was suffering from sleeplessness. They are reunited as a couple after the novel. However, when Eli and Auden reunite, they discuss their differences and decide to attend the Beach Bash together, where they have a terrific time.
