According to a Deadline story from 2019, “The Bad Guys” will defy genre expectations in the same way that some of its DreamWorks forebears have done.
“The animated film is supposed to offer a similar twist on the heist genre that ‘Shrek’ did on fairy tales and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ did for the kung fu genre,” according to Variety.
The plot of “The Bad Guys” will mainly mirror that of its literary source material, which will be detailed in a forthcoming Deadline article revealing the film’s release date in 2022.
Mr. Wolf, Ms. Tarantula, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Mr. Snake are the five anthropomorphic creatures featured in the film. These five were once successful crooks who pulled off a number of lucrative heists.
However, their next assignment, which begins the film, is not criminal in nature, but rather “doing good.” This is “their most difficult job yet,” given their criminal history.
