Maverick, the sequel to Top Gun, has been delayed for what has seemed like an eternity to even the most patient of fans. The sequel was originally scheduled for release in July 2019, but it now appears that it will arrive in theatres in May 2022.
On March 29, 2022, Paramount produced a new trailer for the film in order to promote its release, therefore we would hope that another delay would not be in the works.
There is no need to fear: Jon Hamm had promised that the film would be “everything you hope it’s going to be”. Fans of Top Gun will be the ones to make that decision.
Top Gun Maverick: Release Date
Before we go into all the delays, let’s get to the point. On May 25, 2022, Top Gun: Maverick will be released in the UK, and on May 27, 2022, in the United States.
Streaming giants Netflix and Apple reportedly inquired with Paramount about purchasing the film for a streaming launch, according to The Wall Street Journal. It’s encouraging to see that Paramount has persisted with a theatrical release.
The sequel was filmed between May 2018 and June 2019. To put it another way, it’s been a long time, so best of luck to the cast in their promotional efforts!

According to Maverick director Joseph Kosinski ” Out of a 12- or 14-hour day, you might get 30 seconds of good footage. But it was so hard-earned. It just took a very long time to get it all. Months and months of aerial shooting. We shot as much footage as the three Lord of the Rings movies combined. I think it was 800 hours of footage.”
Tom Cruise said: “We worked with the Navy and the Top Gun school to formulate how to shoot it practically. Because if we’re gonna do it, we’re gonna fly in the F-18’s,”. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer added, “The aviation sequences had to be real, so our actors went through three months of grueling training.”
