Parasyte was written and drawn by Hitoshi Iwaaki between 1988 and 1995 for Kodansha’s Morning Open Zkan and Monthly Afternoon magazines. After Tokyopop and Del Rey, the manga was eventually released by Kodansha USA in North America.
In 2014 and 2015, two live-action films based on manga were released in Japan. Madhouse aired an animated television series adaptation of Parasyte -the maxim- in Japan in October 2014 and March 2015. Toonami’s Toonami English dub aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami television show in the United States from October 2015 to April 2016.
Recap of Parasyte: The Maxim Season 1
Parasyte the maxim’s first season centers on an adolescent boy named Izumi Shinichi who prefers a low-key existence. He soon discovers that his right hand is no longer within his control because of the parasite that has inhabited it. When Shinichi discovers that removing the parasite’s heart from the recipient is the only way to destroy it, he has no alternative but to work with the parasite.
As part of their deal, the parasite agrees to help Izumi fight other parasites around the world in exchange for living in his body as a host, which they promptly agree to. As a result, the two become an unexpected ally, and Izumi is elevated to the status of humanity’s last hope in the struggle against the aliens.

Parasyte Season 2 may never be resurrected because the manga’s publishing was discontinued in 1995. But obtaining the second season is only conceivable if Netflix renews for a profit the first season of the show.
