“The Good Doctor” is an ABC medical drama based on the award-winning South Korean series “Good Doctor.” Dr. Shaun Murphy is played by Freddie High more, who many will recognize from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Bates Motel.”
Shaun is around 26 years old at the start of Season 1 and a young, talented surgeon who begins working at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. While Shaun has an almost photographic memory and is extremely intelligent, he faces social challenges as a result of his autism spectrum disorder.
Along with High more, the cast of “The Good Doctor” includes Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, the hospital’s president and Shaun’s mentor.
“The Good Doctor” received rave reviews from critics upon its initial release, and Highmore was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance. Since then, the show has aired four seasons, with a fifth on the way.
What Is the Plot of Season 5 of the Good Doctor?
A significant portion of “The Good Doctor” Season 4 is devoted to Shaun and his first serious relationship with his girlfriend, Lea (Spara). Things have been going relatively well, with the couple successfully navigating all the challenges that come with being in a romantic relationship.
Then Lea drops the bombshell on Shaun, revealing that she’s pregnant. Unfortunately, the couple goes through a lot throughout the season, and by the finale, their relationship is at its breaking point as they mourn the loss of their baby due to a miscarriage, and Lea considers moving back in with her parents.
Claire (Thomas) and Lim (Chang) learn to trust one another while Lim deals with PTSD and possibly goes to therapy. They travel to Guatemala with a group that includes Shaun, Lea, and a few others to help out for 10 days. Lim strikes up a meaningful friendship with a man at the hospital, Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma (Osvaldo Benavides), while Andrew mulls over his marital problems.

After packing her belongings to leave, Lea changes her mind and decides to stay with Shaun, resulting in the couple’s engagement. Nonetheless, this wonderful news is tempered by a heartbreaking goodbye, as Claire has decided to stay on as a staff doctor in Guatemala.
Despite the departure of a major cast member, Season 4 establishes many major storylines and character development for Season 5, and fans are likely to be eager to see where things go with Shaun and Lea, Lim and Osma, and other characters.
Throughout its long run, “The Good Doctor” has been unafraid to address difficult topics in its episodes, which is in line with how the show brings new representation with its focus on a main character who has a disability. In Season 4, the show tackles coronavirus, racist bias in hospitals, and other timely issues, and fans can expect more of the same in Season 5.
