The figure “Peacemaker,” a lower-tier DC Comics character who was arguably best recognised among pop culture aficionados as the principal inspiration for The Comedian in Alan Moore’s transcendent graphic novel Watchmen, was almost unknown two years ago.
The HBO Max’s Peacemaker, on the other hand, has become one of the most popular—the best—shows on television, because of some excellent writing from James Gunn and a perfect performance from John Cena.
Following the introduction of Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, in The Suicide Squad, director James Gunn wanted to continue the storey of the character. During his quarantine, he began writing the series, picturing, in essence, a whole storey arc in eight episodes. As he explained in September 2020, “Normally, I would have been taking more of a vacation in this space, but because it’s COVID, and I’m stuck at home, I decided to write a TV series.”
It’s clear that Gunn is a busy man; the time he spent writing the first season of Peacemaker was between his first job with DC (The Suicide Squad) and perhaps his final job with Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which he has stated will be his final film with this particular group of characters).
Is he even able to devote another season of Peacemaker to the project? We now understand that the answer is a loud yes.
It took a few minutes to get there, but Gunn wanted to make certain that doing another season of Peacemaker was something he and Cena were both excited about doing together.
In an interview with Variety, he said, “John and I didn’t immediately agree to a second season because we wanted to make sure this was something we enjoyed doing and that we wanted.” “We had to figure everything out, which is why it’s being announced now rather than later. I didn’t immediately commit to the second season of the series. It wasn’t a simple question of saying, “All right, we’re picked up.”
It’s just a matter of time… I just wanted to be sure it was something I truly wanted to do before proceeding.”
Now that Season 1 of Peacemaker has come to a close—and we’ve had the opportunity to see those hilarious cameos—the time it’s to start planning Season 2. Those of us who have been following Chris/journey Peacemakers have enjoyed it, and the writing and performances are excellent enough to warrant additional seasons.
Perhaps we’ll just sit here and watch the opening dance routine for another 100 or so times while waiting for the next instalment to come out.
Is there a Season 2 of Peacemaker in the works?
Yes, there will be a slew of them. In the words of Peacemaker himself, “There’s never a bad moment to rock,” and that time will continue to be the case throughout Season 2.
Peacemaker’s renewal by HBO Max was formally confirmed on February 16, 2022, a day before the Season 1 finale aired on February 17, according to the network. “Working with John Cena and the incredible creative team around me, as well as our partners at HBO Max, has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and personally,” Gunn said in a statement released by HBO Max.
“Creating Peacemaker has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and otherwise.” “That something we all like so much is also enjoyed by the audience has been a tremendous learning experience for us all. The rest of the world will be able to watch where Team Peacemaker goes in Season Two!”
The show’s creator, James Gunn, previously stated that he had ideas for a potential Season 2 (“I’m saving someone for season two,” he said last year in response to a question about whether there were any characters he had to reluctantly cut from his Peacemaker storey), but later clarified that this didn’t necessarily imply that it would happen or that anyone had agreed to participate.
In his letter, he stated that “just because I have characters in mind for Season 2 does not indicate that either HBOMax or John and I have committed to it yet.”

What would be the subject of Season 2 of Peacemaker?
The details are still being worked out, but Gunn said he prefers to start with the character rather than the storey. For the second season of the show, he already knows where Peacemaker would begin and conclude.
“In the first season, I was most interested in learning more about Peacemaker’s character and where he was headed. The narrative and the Butterflies are secondary to the character he was and the changes he underwent, as are the other characters and the points at which they began and ended, because each character, except Vigilante, through significant transformations “Variety spoke with Gunn.
You know the beginning and conclusion of Peacemaker, but you’re playing around with alternative ideas about how that’s going to play out.

Who would be in the cast?
There is no Christopher Smith/Peacemaker without John Cena. Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, and Jennifer Holland have all shown tremendous chemistry with Cena and each other, which seems important to the future of Peacemaker. It’s possible that Season 2 just relocates our main hero to a new locale with a fresh cast of characters. Worse has happened!
Team leader/butterfly Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) was murdered off in Episode 7 of the series, and it’s impossible to imagine him returning. Auggie Smith/White Dragon (Robert Patrick) was likewise killed off in Episode 7, but the finale suggests he may have staked out some mental real estate. So expect more Dexter-style father-son chats in Season 2.
