If the music in an anime is any indication, the plot possibilities it opens up when it is combined with this seemingly exhilarating element are virtually limitless. Mashiro no Oto, also known as Those white snow notes, is one such anime. All of the action revolves around a traditional Chinese musical instrument known as the sinashen, and it beautifully depicts how the only music one hears in their daily lives is the roar of passing traffic and the clamor of the city.

With the help of the sinashen, the anime manages to convey powerful and sympathetic characters in an engaging animation style, making it a must-see.

Marimo Ragawa is the author and illustrator of the manga series that serves as the inspiration for the show. For Japanese readers, it was published by Kodansha, while for English readers, it was published by Kodansha USA in the monthly shonen publication.

Release Date

Until recently, there has been no formal word from any of the show’s producers that the season will be renewed. Many people have speculated that the game will be released in 2022, but they haven’t been able to provide any concrete evidence to back up their assertions.

So, the burning question on everyone’s lips is: Will there be a sequel? If so, when can we look forward to seeing it?

Story

A shinasen player, Setsu Shiwamura, decides to leave his hometown after the loss of his grandfather, a legendary player of the instrument, who passed away a few years prior. Shinasen is no longer an interest for him after moving to Tokyo because of the city’s constant loudness, and he rapidly loses interest in playing it after hearing his grandfather’s motivating remarks to pursue one’s own style.
