Good news for Derry Girls’ fans! The British sitcom, which aired on Channel 4, was renewed for a third season in April 2020. The filming was supposed to begin in June 2020 but had to be postponed due to the on-going world pandemic. The show first aired in 2018 and has managed to captivate its audience with many comic moments throughout the series. Currently, the sitcom has two seasons with six episodes each. It is streaming on Netflix.

When will season 3 release?

There is no official release date yet. However, viewers can expect to see it in late 2020 or early 2021. Similar to Season 1 and 2, Season 3 will also consist of 6 episodes. Currently, the show is not in production due to the current coronavirus situation. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Claire, confirmed the same. However, fans are happy that they will get to witness another season of their favorite sitcom. 

An expected angle for Season 3

Fans are expecting a lot of answers in the third season of the show. They have many questions in mind. Which crew member will break-away from the gang? What about the sparks between Erin and James? What is in store for the group after the talks of peace and good Friday agreement of 1998? There are high expectations from the upcoming season, regardless of what happens!

Derry Girls: Plot and Cast

The series revolves around a teenage girl, Erin, her cousin, and their friends from Catholic school. While the town is in a poor state, Erin and her gang try to navigate through their teenage life. They have several problems that are portrayed hilariously. 

About the cast, the main characters are coming back for Season 3. However, viewers might also get to see some new faces as guest appearances on the show. One can expect to see:

  • Saoirse-Monica Jackson: as Erin Quinn
  • Louisa Harland: as Orla McCool, Erin’s maternal cousin
  • Nicola Coughlan: as Clare Devlin, one of Erin’s best friends
  • Jamie-Lee O’Donnell: as Michelle Mallon, one of Erin’s best friends
  • Dylan Llewellyn: as James Maguire, Michelle’s maternal cousin
  • Tara Lynne O’Neill: as Ma / Mary, Erin’s disciplinary mother
  • Kathy Kiera Clarke: as Aunt Sarah, Orla’s mother, and Mary’s sister

Once the filming officially begins, the makers will be in a position to reveal further information. Until then, fans will have to wait a little longer!
