The executive branch of ASUW continued working this summer, coordinating the 2010 Pokes Vote Gubernatorial Candidate Event, as well as the Mountain West Student Leadership Summit and several other projects.

In August, ASUW sponsored the Pokes Vote gubernatorial candidate event, which brought together the majority of candidates–-Republican and Democratic-- for a debate.

The debate was split into two parts, with the three Democrats started the event, after which the five Republican candidates debated.

In addition to over 200 attendees, ASUW partnered with Wyoming Public Radio to broadcast the event statewide, ASUW President Cameron Nazminia said at Tuesday’s ASUW meeting.

ASUW also has plans to host three more debates, one for each U.S. Representative, Gubernatorial and Superintendent of Public Instruction, before the November elections, according to the Nazminia and Brown ASUW Summer 2010 Report.

The executives also worked to plan the third annual Mountain West Student Leadership Summit, which took place Aug. 13 and 14.

The Summit brought over 60 students and advisors from the Mountain West region to discuss issues such as campuses, programs and athletics, according to the ASUW Summer Report.

In addition to discussions, the Summit featured several activities including a leadership development session with the National Outdoor Leadership School.

Nazminia and Vice President Liz Brown also worked with ASUW Student Radio General Manager, Zachary Taylor to fix issues with the radio station that arose over the summer.

According to the ASUW Summer Report, after checking radio station operations from last year the station had several legal issues to be addressed. Several changes were made for this year to ensure the station was legal and efficient including technology, training, content and personnel.

Nazminia and Brown also spent much of the summer appointing ASUW senators and Students at Large to committees but are still looking for students to serve on committees as well as on the Judicial Council, which they are also looking to reform.

The executives also worked on several smaller campus and ASUW projects including light post banners of prominent alumnae of the university, which should be on campus sometime this semester. They also worked with the Freshman Senate curriculum to better prepare freshmen for ASUW.

Hi! This is Rochak Karki and Kevin Sutherburg, and we are the editors for the BI Online for the 2010/2011 school year. We wanted to take this time to introduce ourselves as the new editors, and also to inform you of things to come.

As the editors for the BI website, we are responsible for the content and appearance of everything you see when you access www.brandingirononline.info. This includes everything from reporting news and posting it on the site, managing user comments, et cetera. We are always looking for ways to improve the site, and this year we are placing an emphasis on reader input. Some of the ideas we have include a weekly or monthly poll, discussion articles where you can exercise your 1st Amendment rights alongside other readers in debate, picture slideshows, live breaking news/event coverage via Twitter, and more. However, to accomplish this we will need your help. If you have an idea for what we can use to improve the BI website, or any other questions or comments, feel free to email us at webmaster@uwstudentmedia.info. We would love to hear your ideas.

Also keep in mind that whenever changes are made to an existing system, technical difficulties are sure to arise. If you discover any bugs or problems while viewing the site, please contact us at the above email address and we will do our best to have the issue resolved as soon as possible.

We look forward to working with the BI Online and you, our readers.

 Sincerely,

Rochak Karki, Senior Online Editor

Kevin Sutherburg, Assistant Online Editor
